Malnox keeps the verdict on your machine and acts on its own: it stops the process, quarantines the file, freezes an encryption attack and restores the backups. The declared limits are about precision and coverage, not about response.

Four decisions that explain the rest
Every feature in the product follows from these. When trade-offs appear, we choose in this order.
The verdict is computed on your machine
No hash, file name or result travels to us. Not out of generosity, but because a security engine that depends on the network is an engine an attacker can stop by cutting the cable.
The rules are readable
67 YARA rules in 10 text files. You can open, comment out, disable or replace them. A product that asks for trust without verification is not security, it is faith.
Limits are written down, not hidden
Global reputation, the sandbox and the kernel driver are installed and switchable in settings, and whatever still cannot be done is written in plain sight. It is all on the page, before you buy anything — because a customer who discovers the limits after an incident is a customer lost rightly.
Honesty is a feature
The score is max(engine) + 15% of the rest, the thresholds are published, and the three reputation rules score below the suspicious threshold. Nothing is “magic AI” that cannot be explained.
The real limits, today
The gaps that still exist, written as plainly as we can. Anything fixed has left the list.
Kernel driver built, but not production-signed
The Malnox minifilter (altitude 321000, port \MalNOXFilterPort) exists as real code: it compiles, links and passes signature verification in the test build. What we do not have yet is the official signature: loading it on a normal Windows needs an EV kernel-signing certificate and Microsoft Partner Center attestation. Until then, a file is stopped as soon as it appears on disk, and the process holding it is stopped with it — not at file-open time, a millisecond before execution.
Cloud reputation is opt-in and still young
Global reputation exists and is enabled in settings: an unknown local hash can be looked up in the Malnox network and the answer feeds the score. What it cannot do yet is compete with databases holding billions of samples — our network is young, and with it switched off the verdict comes from your local history alone.
67 rules, not millions of signatures
The in-house rule package is small and behaviour-targeted. The signature engine covers the rest, but not at the scale of a huge commercial database. The rules are readable and extensible: you can add your own without asking us.
Static emulation, not VM detonation
The sandbox unwraps every encoded payload and analyses what comes out — up to 8 encoding layers, across scripts, macros and, optionally, binaries. It does not run the file in a virtual machine or watch it execute: a payload that builds its own code at runtime, with no recognisable text slips past static analysis — but if it starts writing files or encrypting, the behaviour engines and the ransomware guard catch it at execution time.
Memory scanning reads, it does not block
Memory scanning looks inside the resident pages of running processes for the same indicators it looks for in files — including code built in memory that never touches disk. The result is de-noised: an API name imported from kernel32 is not evidence, injected code is recognised by its executable private page, and interpreter vocabulary is judged on the command line. What stays outside it: a process owned by another user or protected by the system cannot be opened without a driver, and is reported as “skipped”, never as “clean”.
Boot posture checked, not intercepted
Malnox reads Secure Boot, boot chain integrity, VBS, HVCI, KMCI, TPM and ELAM and tells you exactly what is on and what is not — 8 dedicated checks. A bootkit that installs itself before the operating system is not blocked, though: Malnox starts with your session, not earlier.
Encryption-attack attribution is by proximity
When hundreds of files are rewritten in seconds, Malnox freezes the processes running from the affected folders or carrying those paths in their command line, then restores the backups. Without a driver we cannot read another process's file handles, so an encryptor running from a different folder that does not pass its paths as arguments cannot be stopped pre-emptively — the files are restored, though.
Web blocking is at DNS level, not a proxy
Blocklist domains are written into the Windows hosts file on both IPv4 and IPv6, and the DNS cache is flushed after every write. The browser can no longer resolve them — that is real blocking, not a label in the console. What it does not do: it does not inspect traffic, and it does not stop a program that already knows the IP address and connects to it directly, bypassing name resolution. Inspecting all traffic would need a signed network driver, which does not exist yet.
The posture modules read, they do not block
Firewall, privacy, USB, exploit protection and vulnerabilities are audits: they read the Windows configuration, explain it and tell you what to do. They do not change firewall settings on their own, do not block a USB stick from mounting and do not revoke camera permissions. Automatic response covers files and processes, not system settings. The single exception, with explicit confirmation, is applying an exploit-mitigation configuration to an executable you pick.
Six things that actually work today
Not roadmap, not “coming soon”. What is below is tested and shipped in the current version.
Detection without a network
The product's core guarantee: no engine in the detection path makes a network request. Verifiable, not just promised.
Explainable verdicts
Every report shows which engine contributed what. There is no “trust us, we know better”.
Response, not just alerts
When it finds something, Malnox acts: it stops the process, removes the file, freezes encryption and restores the backups. It does not just tell you and walk away.
Enterprise without SaaS
RBAC, append-only audit log, SIEM export and a hardening score — all on your own infrastructure.
Privacy by default
The AI analyst is optional and advisory. By default it sends metadata only, and its answer never enters the verdict.
Declared limits
The Malnox kernel driver compiles and signs, but it does not yet have the official Microsoft signature. We say so on the front page, not in a footnote.
Where Malnox sits in the landscape
A mainstream antivirus has millions of signatures, a Microsoft-signed kernel driver and years of global telemetry. Malnox has a driver that compiles and signs, but not yet the official signature — so it does not load on a normal Windows. What it does have: 17 engines that run locally, rules you can read, automatic response on every detection and behaviour you can verify with a packet capture.
Where Malnox fits best: project folders, isolated environments, endpoints where you want to know exactly what was decided and why, and any machine where a detected file should actually be stopped, not just reported. The installer adds mutual exclusions with other security products automatically, so they do not slow each other down.
Try it on a file you already have.
The installer is 177 MB and asks for no account. Not convinced? Check a link above — the web engine is already running on this page.
